Gouged by the four Pillars
A reader has emailed me and told me that the sunshine and warm weather here in WA must have bleached me cynical eyes. A quote is below
I feel your blogs are getting a little insipid spark it up a little.
Well I plead guilty. It is hard to feel any fire when you are cruising around West Australia looking at all the wonderful scenery and talking with the laid back country folk who are more worried about the coming wheat harvest than anything else.
All that changed this morning when I got up at 5 AM to let the dog out and talk to the morning chorus of birds. The dog was still asleep and the birds all flew off in big flocks so off to the news online.
Banks to gouge bigger profits
That was the headline that greeted me in “The West Australian” What could this mean? Could the poor banks and in particular “The four Pillars”, as the big boyz are known here in the land of the Wombat, be suffering the reality of the global economy? Could they actually be finding that Easy Street is so yesterday and they actually have to do some real work?
No like the oil cos, they are a monopoly in the language of the real world and so they are doing what monopolies do. They are screwing the maximum they can out of the rest of us without actually killing us.
Free market idealogues will say that this is market forces at play and pontificate with their usual mindless drivel. The great majority will just carry on doing what they always have done. Zilch. The Regulators will do what they can, which is very little the way the laws are written and I will go and have a cup of tea while I read Joe’s latest views on corporations.
